Cheers to margaritas! Photo by Linda Sheridan

We began our lunch with one of abc Cocina’s popular items-their margaritas. I had a passion fruit margarita, with arette blanco tequila, rosaluna mezcal, passion fruit, and lime. My friend had the ginger one, with milagro reposado tequila, cointreau, ginger, and lime. Both are highly recommended choices.

The new lunch menu includes delicious appetizers such as their spiced ground beef and celery root empanadas; rice or lettuce bowls with avocado, roasted delicata squash, pickled jalapeños, and marinated beans; tacos with your choice of pork, roasted mushroom, chicken, beef, or crispy gulf flounder; and their quesadillas.

On the back of each menu, you can find a list of all the farms they locally source their food from, many of which can be found at the Union Square Market. abc Cocina is inspired to create an organic relationship between the plant and their food.

For starters we went with their homemade guacamole and chips. The guacamole was delicious with the perfect level of spice paired with warm crunchy tortillas and their tomato salsa. The salsa had the perfect balance of sweet and spicy balancing the habanero sauce with sugar.

Next, we shared an order of the pork tacos and the chipotle chicken quesadilla. The pork tacos came with pickled pineapple and fresno chili relish giving the taco a refreshing, flavorful taste. The quesadilla was hands down my favorite, made with their chipotle chicken, oaxaca cheese, and jalapeño salsa folded into a flour tortilla.

We topped the afternoon off with their vanilla bean flan topped with roasted figs and whipped creme fraiche.

Located on E 19th St, abc Cocina is open for lunch Wednesday through Friday from 12 pm until 4 pm. Stop by and try their new lunch menu, and enjoy their outdoor seating while the weather is still nice this fall!
