Cheers! Double Espresso Martini and a spirit-free Lavande Tonique. Photo by Linda Sheridan
My friend recently received a new job offer, so we celebrated going out to dinner at Le Coin. We began the evening with cocktails; I enjoyed a perfect Double Espresso Martini prepared with Grey Goose, Cafe Borghetti, espresso, Fernet-Branca and simple syrup, and she tried the equally lovely, spirit-free Lavande Tonique, with CleanCo Gin, homemade lavender syrup, lime juice, and elderflower tonic water.

From a selection of appetizers and salads, we shared La Tarte Tatin à la Tomate, served with whipped ricotta, baby frisée and tomato vinaigrette, that was so light yet tasty, in fact, my friend requested the salad that came with this, to also be served with her entree. She had Le Coin Burger, topped with carmelized Vidalia onion, and gruyere cheese (you can also opt for rosemary or truffle fries as a side.) I savored my Crispy Skin Salmon, generously portioned, served with a finely cut guanciale (pork), pearl onions, fish stock, white wine, shallots, in a light basil-lemon sauce. A nice selection of other entrees are available, from Duck Shepherd’s Pie, New York Strip Steak, Mussels, Cajun Chicken, and various pasta and vegetable dishes.
We saved some room for dessert. I opted for the smooth but French classic, Creme Brulée, and my friend had the Tarte aux Pommes, served with a delectable caramel ice cream. It was the perfect way to end the evening.
As the Meatpacking District is also regarded as brunch town, Le Coin recently introduced a Brunch Menu, offered weekends from 11am-4pm. Patrons can choose from selections including an Acai Bowl, French Toast, Chicken & Waffles, Steak & Eggs, or a Breakfast Baguette, with a choice of sides. Bring your appetite and don’t forget the cocktails! Cheers!
