On a sleepy winter’s evening, my friend and I dined at the cozy new Boni & Mott restaurant, that serves up tasty Mediterranean fare and relaxed vibes. The Nolita spot is a family venture from Mehdi Mokrani and his cousins Salim and Foued Ben, that offers both an intimate and a convivial atmosphere that never gets too loud. Blue banquette seating in the corner is available for those that want a more private conversation. Custom wallpaper designed by local artist Pili Weeber adorns the walls featuring drawings of neighborhood spots including Katz’s Deli, Elizabeth Street Garden, and Thai Diner. Chill music selections put everyone in a relaxed mood.

The menu is straightforward but not overwhelming, and there are plenty of options for those opting vegetarian. They also offer a well-rounded wine menu. We started with appetizers of Burrata and Roasted Baby Beets, along with the Octopus a la plancha, prepared to perfection served with thin sliced eggplant and an herb vinaigrette. Other noteworthy selections include The Hamachi Crudo, that’s served over fresh heirloom cherry tomatoes, topped with a colatura-based vinaigrette and a hint of tarragon, and Boni’s Mussels.

Next, for the entrees, I loved the Citrus Glazed Lamb Chops, with Amba marinade, and a green fried herb crust.  My friend savored her Chef’s Slow Cooked Half Chicken, perfectly moist with Ras el hanout, Castelvetrano olives and capers. In fact, we ordered some fresh bread to further enjoy the sauce on this dish. Sides of note include the Brussel Sprouts, with Donut nectarines and mint.

We saved some room for dessert, which was delectable, and generously portioned for two. The Brioche Pudding was served with sliced apples and ice cream, complete with a caramel drizzle. Other tasty options include Olive Oil Cake, and Peach Sorbet. Next time!
