Art Basel began back in the 1970’s when gallerists Trudl Bruckner and Balz Hitt put together an international art fair that brought more than 60,000 visitors to 90 different galleries. Throughout the years, Art Basel has grown even bigger than that impressive first year and has added several locations to the list including Miami Beach. 2022 promises to be even bigger and better than ever before: to celebrate its 20th anniversary, Art Basel Miami Beach will feature 282 leading galleries from December 1st-3rd.
“It is truly exciting to celebrate our 20-year presence in Miami Beach,” says Marc Spiegler, Global Director of Art Basel. “Over the last two decades our show has not only reinforced its pivotal position in the region–uniquely bridging the art scenes of North and South Americas, Europe, and beyond–but also played a galvanizing role in the city’s profound cultural transformation. The increasingly diverse range of galleries and artistic voices represented will make our show richer in discoveries than ever before.”
