Shantell Martin’s latest art installation–THE FUTURE–is now on display at Subliminal Projects in LA through June 4th. The exhibit is based on Martin’s 27-point manifesto for the future of the art industry:
Martin has previously worked with artists and institutions like The Whitney Museum Shop, Kendrick Lamar, designer Kelly Wearstler, and the Boston Ballet. She has also collaborated with The North Face, Google Creative Labs, and B&B Italia.
Her manifesto for her work is this: “a hope, a wish, and an encouragement for everyone to look deeper into how we support artists, how we protect artists, how we empower artists, and how we value art and the artists who dedicate their lives to their craft.”
THE FUTURE spans multiple different mediums–paper, canvas, bottles, textiles, and even the event space itself–but all feature the same black ink. Martin says that she hopes “that the show is a gift to everyone to question, explore, and delight in this shared human experience.”
Subliminal Projects was founded in 1995 by Shepard Fairey and Blaize Blouin. It began as a way to introduce skateboard culture and design into the art world, but soon became even more, serving as a way support emerging and marginalized artists. It is located in Echo Park.
