Fresh off her multi-year world tour with insurance giant AIG –

Christina returns to Manhattan as an executive within Global Claims. It’s a role she’s undeniably suited for, having successfully led hundreds of people and managed multiple business units from Miami to Tokyo to Bulgaria, where she was in charge of over 500 multi-lingual insurance professionals supporting the UK and Western Europe. And everywhere she goes she brings change with her, transforming divisions to deliver groundbreaking results.

Bright and engaging, Christina is naturally drawn to the energy and diversity of life in NoHo. Slipping spur-of-the-moment into a table at Atla, waiting patiently for sushi at Uchū, or shopping at DiPalo’s to prepare an impromptu antipasti platter for friends in her home.

When Christina steps out, she’s always dressed for success –

whether she is heading out for tennis, attending an art gallery showing, delivering a keynote address, or discussing global trends with business leaders. “A solid, 90% of what I wear to work is, St. John,” she admits. “But I feel absolutely inspired when I wear Anya Ponorovskaya. I feel like I can do anything.”

Apparently, Christina can do anything she sets her mind to.

Fearless and courageous even at the age of 8, she boarded a jet from Louisville, Kentucky, for Wiesbaden, Germany, to join her mother who was serving in the U.S. Army. “I knew that I wanted to be a global citizen, to be international and see the world,” Christina says. “Now, I’m so glad to be back in Manhattan. It’s the right change for me right now.”

Pictures From The 4th Annual Brookfield Place Open Celebrity Match Event

On August 24th, tennis stars John Isner and Lucas Pouille faced off as part of the 4th Annual Brookfield Place Open–but not just against each other. Isner and Pouille played doubles against six rotating pairs of lucky members of the crowd. The crowd was excited to see two of their favorite players engage in friendly matches in advance of the US Open on Monday.

Extending through August 30, The Brookfield Place Open offers the community a chance to participate in the fun of US Open season through adult and kid tennis clinics – along with open court sessions – throughout the week.

Amid rumors of a possible return to The Real Housewives of New York City, Jill Zarin made a surprise appearance with her boyfriend Gary Brody and pup sidekick Bossi Zarin to join in on the fun. She warmed up the court for Isner and Pouille, hitting volleys with her tennis coach. Isner and Pouille joined her on the court along with German tennis professional Anna-Lena Friedsam for a friendly game of mixed doubles

Isner and Zarin were matched against Pouille and Friedsam for the first game, then the pairs switched for the second game. The third match featured men versus women, with the ladies beating the gentlemen two games to none.

Guests snacked on seasonal cocktails and bites from Brookfield Place’s Tartinery Shack during the matches. The crowd also engaged in various other programming during the event, such as participatory demonstrations and free tennis rackets to the first fifty guests.

Tennis Legends Face Off at Annual Johnny Mac Tennis Project Pro Am

On Saturday, Aug 26, star tennis players such as John McEnroe, Patrick McEnroe, Chris Evert and more take over to the Hamptons for the Johnny Mac Tennis Project Pro AM. And you, too, can play along.

“We have created an annual event with 128 players, which is the size of a Grand Slam draw — pretty incredible,” said John McEnroe.

Back for its third year, the Johnny Mac Tennis Project Pro AM allow amateurs to team up with the pros in some nerve-racking doubles matches. And for eight lucky amateurs, the event also includes an exclusive Benefactor Level, where there will be rounds to compete with and against the tennis stars.

The tennis matches will play out from 3 – 7 p.m. at SPORTIME Amagansett in East Hampton, and you can sign up and purchase your tickets right here. Following the matches, there will be an after party hosted by John McEnroe and friends for the players, guests and fans. This includes hors d’oeuvres, a buffet dinner, an open bar, live entertainment and dancing, and a live auction.

The event will once again raise funds to support young, aspiring tennis players.

“The Johnny Mac Tennis Project believes that tennis is a change agent and a sport of opportunity for kids,” said Executive Director of Johnny Mac Tennis Project (JMTP), Ron Nano.

The program offers a wide range of help. From introductory programs provided to schools and community-based organizations, which focus on cultivating healthy lifestyles and self-discipline, to world-class tournament training for aspiring college scholarship recipients and professional athletes, the project’s initiative aims to be well-rounded and wants to support beginners as well as advanced players.

This year the lineup reads two new tried-and-true tennis talents.

“We have added Chris Evert and Pat Cash to the group, joining my brother Patrick, me, and Mats, with more players to come. It is all about the mission — to bring tennis to New York City kids who could not otherwise get to play, and to make some great New York players,” said John McEnroe.

“This annual event is a unique and exciting opportunity in the Hamptons, right before the U.S. Open, to play or watch some great tennis, to see some Tennis Legends competing close-up, and to support a great cause,” added Patrick McEnroe, who also serves as President of JMPT’s Board of Directors.

“Most importantly, this event allows us to continue bringing tennis to kids and young adults who otherwise would not have access to the sport,” he said.

Taste of French Open Comes to Downtown NYC

A typical Sunday morning in Manhattan may be spent consuming French fries and French toast at brunch, but this past Sunday, New Yorkers got a taste of the French Open.

The French Tennis Federation (Federation Française de Tennis a.k.a. the FFT) organizes the Roland-Garros every year. But here in the United States, we know the Roland-Garros by another name: the French Open. It’s one of the oldest traditions in the history of tennis and was broadcasted in 220 countries last year. While we couldn’t make it to the Porte d’Auteil in Paris, France for the men’s finals this Sunday, we didn’t have to go far for a special spectator experience.

The FFT, in partnership with Longines, BNP Paribas and Lacoste, hosted Roland-Garros in the City, bringing the action of the French Open to New Yorkers at the Brookfield Place Waterfront Plaza in Battery Park City. The semifinals and finals were screened live on the Plaza, free to all who wanted to experience the “love” of the game of tennis.

Around 400 people attended the Plaza showing of the men’s finals on Sunday morning, where Rafael Nadal took home the victory with his tenth French Open title.

The French Open is the only Grand Slam played on clay. So in the style of the French Open’s famous red courts, the event also included a full-size red clay court which was open to guests throughout the weekend. Tennis patrons of all ages enjoyed free classes, clinics and open play. Visitors could also test out their serving skills at Longines’ “Smash Corner.”

Children were able to get in on the fun at the Kids Zone. And the event also offered an exhibit that featured images and stories behind the famous Roland-Garros posters, which were created by artists like Joan Miro New York-based Viz Muni.

Outdoor Tennis in NYC During the Summer

While tennis is almost impossible to enjoy outdoors during the cold winter months in New York, it’s a completely different proposition in the summer. The tennis scene in the City That Never Sleeps features a plethora of viable venues, some of which have been listed in Timeout’s overview of the best tennis courts in the whole of NYC.

Years ago, The New York Times highlighted the difficulty of finding and playing tennis in the city. There are quite a few glaring factors, really, aside from the generally frigid climate, as you have to consider the somewhat over-the-top expense and the actual playing area in proximity to the office or where you live.

Thankfully, Play Your Court suggests that New York, is more than just a concrete jungle; it presents five boroughs where you can enjoy a lively tennis scene playing at both indoor and outdoor venues. Having said that, here are some of New York City’s best tennis courts to play on this summer.

Central Park

Central Park’s tennis courts are scattered across 96th St, 93rd St, and Central Park West. Yes, it can be a bit overwhelming playing in the area, considering the amount of people, but the courts are very accessible and convenient. There are 26 clay courts all in all so you need to bring those specialized pair of tennis shoes and be ready to shell out $15 an hour to play.

96th and Riverside

The great thing about the tennis courts at 96th and Riverside is that it faces the world famous Hudson River. Apart from the spectacular view, it also has 10 clay courts that are great to play on. Just like the aforementioned Central Park, enjoying an hour of tennis at 96th and Riverside will set you back $15.

119th and Riverside

119th and Riverside’s tennis courts are rather similar to its nearby neighbors over at 96th. It presents a pleasant vista of the Hudson, as well as costing $15 an hour to play. However, 119th and Riverside features 10 plexi-paved hard courts in the middle of a relatively quiet part of the city.

The most important thing to consider when playing on these courts is to secure the necessary park permit to play on all the public tennis courts in the five boroughs in and around the state. Though it costs a significant $200, at the end of the day, you will be able to scratch that itch of getting to play tennis in NYC.

All in all, if you are planning to learn and/or play tennis in the Big Apple, then playing outdoors is definitely your best bet. From Central Park to the courts along the Riverside, New York City’s courts represent a vibrant sporting culture, generally highlighting the raw, close to careless charm of its tennis clubs. And making the trek Uptown is well worth it for excellent courts and breaking a sweat with good friends.
