Genital Warts: Causes, Symptoms, Removal

How to know that it is the right time to focus on your body?

The answer is, “When your body starts showing signs of any illness, especially the one that you would never expect.” The lack of awareness of what is going on in their bodies has become one of the problems that busy people face. Having a lot to do with their intelligence and knowledge, they seldom focus on their body. As a result, the body starts showcasing signs of being infected with viruses and struggling to fight the illness that it has long had. One of them is Human papillomavirus (HPV) and genital warts it causes.

Causes

HPV should be held responsible for one of the most common sexually transmitted diseases with the same name. People, who lead an active sexual life, become prone to it at some point in their life. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), HPV is a widespread virus; however, only 1 out of 10 infected people showcase any symptoms or have genital warts (small growths, also known as venereal warts, or condylomata acuminata). The others usually never know that they are infected until they find these warts around the genitals or anus. They are sexually transmitted, meaning that any type of sexual contact – genital, anal or oral, can lead to the development of this condition. This even means that a mother can infect the baby when giving birth.

Symptoms and Localization

First and foremost, if you don’t have any symptoms, it doesn’t guarantee that you are not infected. On the other hand, you may have genital warts accompanied by no symptoms. In most cases, these warts appear in a variety of shapes and sizes. There can be only one wart, or it could have already formed a cluster by the time you discover it. They can be rough or smooth, flat or raised. Usually, the common symptoms of having warts come from warts themselves. They can itch, burn, hurt or bleed, cause redness and discomfort. Women can find these warts situated near or on their vulva, the internal surface of the vagina, the anus, and the cervix. For men, it is typical to have these warts around or on the penis, scrotum, anus, thigh, and groin.

Prevention

As you may have already guessed, the key to preventing genital warts or getting the HPV can be found in two things. The first one is getting regular STI screenings as no one, and even the doctors, can diagnose HPV if the person has no symptoms. The second thing to keep in mind is to use barrier protection, condoms, for instance. Unfortunately, they can eliminate the risk of transmission, but not completely. This means that regular check-ups, especially before you begin a new relationship, are vital.

Removal

Sometimes warts may go away themselves; nevertheless, removing them has certain benefits. It can help you smooth the pain, understand the type of warts and remove them before HPV causes cancer. (Note that people with HPV usually do not develop cancer; however, they are included in the group of increased risk). Modern healthcare offers a handful of options to get rid of warts. You need to visit a dermatologist before opting for a specific type of treatment, as over-the-counter drugs can do you a disservice.

For genital warts removal, the dermatologist usually suggests the following options:

  1. Cryosurgery, when the warts are frozen by applying liquid nitrogen to the infected area.
  2. Electrocautery, when the warts are removed by directing an electric current after putting some local anesthetic.
  3. Surgical removal, the surgeon removes warts herself after putting some local anesthetic.
  4. Laser treatment, when warts are destroyed with intensive laser light.

Taking care of your health requires a holistic approach. It is not only about what’s obvious; sometimes serious health issues can live in silence for years and show up when your body is exhausted. To prevent this from happening, make sure to have regular check-ups to tailor your care to your body needs and address any issues as soon as you notice them.

The Challenges of Working on Large Outdoor Construction and Excavation Site

As if overseeing largescale construction and excavation projects wasn’t difficult enough, along came COVID-19 to throw another spanner in the works.

By now, building firms have gotten to grips with the safety measures that are necessary to keep workers and the public safe, and while social distancing and the like make completing construction works particularly difficult in some areas, the show must go on – the demand for new-build homes and commercial properties remains as feverish as ever.

So, parking the pandemic to one side for the moment, what other challenges do large outdoor construction or excavation projects face? And what do you need to be aware of to ensure that the project goes smoothly and that everyone is kept safe on the job?

Precise Project Management

Fail to prepare, prepare to fail – so said Benjamin Franklin, anyway. And he had a point.

If you fail to prepare your excavation project correctly, by not planning each step of the process with precise timelines and costing, or by failing to build in contingencies for delays and supply chain failure (more on that later), then the chances are that your build/dig will go horribly wrong.

Goal setting from the outset is vital. Construction projects can fall behind the deadline or run over budget – sometimes, that is simply unavoidable – but effective project management from the get-go can limit the risk of either. It’s useful for accountability, too.

What many firms find helpful is to break a large-scale project down into smaller sections, delegating the management of each where necessary and setting goals within each sub-set. Don’t forget, one error or delay can compound the overall build/dig, so keeping these to a minimum is paramount.

Another difference between success and failure on an excavation project? Effective communication. There are likely to be different teams within your overall dig. Keeping in constant contact with each of these will prove vital in outlining any potential pitfalls that may overcome the project. Disseminating information is essential to stop any breakdowns from occurring. Whether that is face-to-face communication or via Zoom or Microsoft Teams in this COVID age, be sure to take the time to talk with all contractors of your job.

Adequate Risk Management

It goes without saying that excavation projects – with major plant equipment and deep holes – are dangerous!

Safeguarding and putting processes in place that minimize the risks are vital because even with insurance in place, it is imperative that accidents and damage to property are avoided at all costs.

The complexities of that are increased by the presence of sub-contractors on-site, who may be certified and experienced, but that does not necessarily guarantee that accidents and incidents won’t occur. Refreshing your staff and contractors’ memories about the need for safe working practices will improve the efficacy of your dig exponentially.

This is as good a time as any to talk about excavation business insurance. It is essential that you have adequate cover in place before any work gets underway. At least then you have the peace of mind of knowing that should the worst happen, you will be protected legally and financially.

Most excavation business insurance policies will contain medical payment protection, so should a contractor or a member of the public suffer an injury on your site, then you will be covered for their medical treatment costs. You should be protected in the case of property damage too, so if your excavation team hits an underground pipe that causes a water or gas leak, then you will be covered.

Supply Chain Failure

Anyone that has been in the construction trade long enough knows that the supply chain in the sector is as fragile as it gets.

Getting equipment and materials onto your site in a timely fashion is ultimately key to ensuring you remain on course to meet your deadlines. Unfortunately, the reality is that that can be out of your hands if there are issues further up the chain.

All you can do is build contingencies into your project that allow for delays while effectively communicating with your staff and contractors to ensure that everyone is in the loop.

Planning your excavation using effective project management will ensure that orders for supplies are placed in ample time. Even if there are delayed deliveries, you then remain in a good position.

There will forever be challenges to large construction and excavation projects, which have been exacerbated by COVID-19. But with appropriate management, you can minimize the damage these have on your build or dig.

Why Istanbul is so Attractive to UK Medical Tourists

Istanbul is an excellent destination for anybody looking to have a fun, exciting holiday in a beautiful city. The rich architecture and history of the area alone are enough to warrant a trip, but what many people do not realize is that it is also popular with medical tourists looking to combine their medical trip with a holiday.

After all, why not take a well-deserved holiday at the same time? In fact, many people come to Istanbul every year for relatively minor procedures such as a hair transplant. Why not combine your hair transplant in Turkey with a relaxing vacation?

Thousands of medical tourists arrive in Turkey every year from the United Kingdom. It is not that surprising that many of these individuals choose to have work done in Istanbul, since this is a modern city, offering state-of-the-art technology and certified doctors, and medical care is affordable and within easy flight distance of the UK.

The city offers much for a UK tourist, or any visitor, to do and see, such that a person is likely to find something they are interested in. There are ample places to stay and many ways to travel around the city and surrounding areas, so there are options to suit all budgets.

Arts and architecture

The architecture is amazing and represents a rich history of the Byzantine and Ottoman empires. The truly impressive Hagia Sophia is a must for any visitor interested in the rich history of the area. This large domed building is an architectural marvel, with beautiful internal structures including impressive ceiling frescoes of the Byzantine period.

To see a building of the Ottoman era you can tour the Dolmabahce palace, where you will be impressed by the decorative inside with its gold leaf ceilings and baroque period influences.

Furthermore, Istanbul has some of the best contemporary art galleries in the world. The city has become a gathering place for artists and there are often festivals celebrating the artistic community. There is a biennial festival which showcases a range of artists and their works. The awe-inspiring arts, culture, and architecture of Istanbul are sure to make any trip a worthwhile endeavor.

Nature and outdoors

While recovering from your procedure, it is a good idea to be outdoors enjoying the sights and sounds of the city. You can enjoy walking in the lush, green Belgrad forest, or take a boat trip on the Bosphorus strait; interestingly the strait is an important waterway since it is part of the boundary between Europe and Asia.

You can enjoy the nature of Belgrad forest and city parks such as Gulhane Park, which has several beautiful flowers from the many bulbs and tulips that have been planted, and there is even a science museum to visit.

Besides this museum, you can also explore the Istanbul sea life aquarium, with its clever design where you feel as though you are in the ocean and can see fish, sharks, and stingrays up close.

Food and shopping

Istanbul offers delightful dining experiences, with many places to eat, where you can experience authentic and tasty Turkish cuisine. You can eat at a restaurant or sample some street food. Common and popular food bought at street vendor stalls includes items such as kebap, which is a meat dish, or a börek, which is a scrumptious pastry.

You can grab one of these snacks while walking the streets, exploring, and shopping. You cannot visit Istanbul without at least once experiencing the Grand Bazaar. This covered market has more than 4000 shops to browse and attracts almost half a million visitors daily; wandering through the streets of the Bazaar is an experienced insight, sounds, and smells that you won’t soon forget.

No matter what your interests are, there will be something fun for you to do in Istanbul, and remember, just because you are coming for a hair transplant, doesn’t mean you can’t also have a fun holiday.

Barber Surgeons Guild: A Portal to Haircuts Past and Future

A step into the Barber Surgeons Guild is a step into the past. The barbers look ready for a prohibition-era night on the town in button-downs, vests, and the occasional fedora. The back wall is a ’20s-era man-cave with lounge seating, a wall of period books, and a readily available collection of whiskeys. Yes, you’re welcome to grab a glass. From the chairs to the barber capes to the tile walls and light fixtures, there is an effort to transport you to another place and time.

Keep going far enough, though, and you step right back into the future. The back of Barber Surgeons Guild is a state-of-the-art hair restoration facility offering a variety of services for its clientele. Robotic hair restoration, PRP, scalp camo, and more–if you want more hair than you have, or are worried about losing what you’ve got, they have the tools to help.

The name “Barber Surgeon” might sound strange, but it comes from a tradition more than 1000 years old. In the middle ages, doctors or physicians had a lot more in common with a medical school professor, a family doctor, or both. If you wanted surgery, you had to go to the other medical professions, the only ones who traveled and carried the knives needed for surgery–barbers. For hundreds of years, the jobs of haircuts and surgery were shared by this strange class of professionals, even being enshrined in English society with the creation of the Company of Barber-Surgeons in 1540.

Ari S Goldberg
Ari S Goldberg, owner of the Barber Surgeons Guild.

The tradition, of course, fell off with the rise of the physician-surgeon and the surgeon-surgeon, but the archetype was fascinating for Ari Goldberg, the founder of The Barber Surgeons Guild. The company has two locations: one in Los Angeles and one in NYC. Downtown spoke to him about his unique business hybrid.

Downtown: Yeah, so you have a very unique aesthetic for a, I don’t know what the LA location looks like, but for the New York location I really liked the…it felt like a kind of 1920s theme.

Ari Goldberg: Yeah. The classic barbershop.

DT: How did that aesthetic come about?

AG: I think it’s just rooted in what we wanted to create with the brand. The vision was to combine consumer and medical. And then, from a brand perspective, I wanted to create something that was very much like a heritage program, like kind of a Double RL. It was rooted in history and timeless was a word that came up a lot. It all plays off of timeless. Or we would always say like a gentleman’s lounge. And then when you look at the history of the barber surgeon, you know, it’s a real thing.

DT: So why combine those two? Do you have a background in hair regrowth?

AG: No, I do not. My background is in marketing. My expertise is very deeply rooted in advertising. My initial starting point was to expand my career and my investment portfolio. I was interested in the convergence of consumer and medical. There were a lot of consumer brands but not so much the medical component.

DT: What inspired you to do that?

AG: I really just kind of seen the market opportunity. You know, I was the guy that cared about health and wellness and cared about style and appearance. I know there’s a lot of other guys like me. And having a healthy head of hair is obviously something that’s paramount, something of interest to a lot of us. There are a lot of snake oil salesmen out there on both the consumer and medical trends, and both come up with products and services. And I really wanted to create a brand that was good for the people around us–that had medical research and science to back it up.

Barber Surgeons Guild

DT: How do you convince people that you’re the real deal?

AG: Well, I think having a business partner that is a doctor was a big thing for me. I wanted this to be backed by medical research and science, you know, not some kid in Silicon Valley with that idea. Um, so that was it. Uh, you know, all of the ladies are verified. You know, we don’t sell snake oil, you know, “you put this on your head and your hair magically grows.” Like, it just doesn’t work like that. There’s no topical solution that you just rub on and magically you have a full head of hair. That’s why I’m trying to offer the full arsenal of products.

When we started the process, I said to them, you know, I don’t care about price right now. I want to create the highest quality products. That’s what we wanted to do as a brand.

DT: What specifically are you looking for in a barber?

AG: I think we’re looking for someone that’s obviously a master at his craft, who cares about it. You know, I think what’s great about the guys in (our shop). You know, they really see themselves as artisans and craftsmen. They take it seriously, which is great. We want them to be super personable and easy to talk to. We want them to have a trusting kind of bond with the client. A lot of times, especially as guys are starting to lose hair, it becomes a very sensitive subject. So we want someone that kind of shoots you straight, but you know, does it with a soft touch. And we want guys that are knowledgeable and interested in the products and services that we offer so they can educate the client on the options and the additional things that are available to them.

DT: what do you want people to know about your business?

AG: I want them to know that we created this for ourselves and for our friends and family. You know, we use these products every day. We want to create a product that we were willing to use, not something that we could just give to the consumer for the highest profit margin. It’s like you gotta be the customer you want–you gotta use the stuff too and believe it’s the best. And you know, we’re going out of our way. I use it every day because as far as I know, it is the best product out there. I get my hair cut (at Barber Surgeons Guild) because I think we have the best barbers. I think, in a way, it came from a selfish place because Justin and I are two guys and this is what we wanted and we knew that there were other guys out there like us and you know, we could formulate something around that.
