Healthy, Vibrant Skin Tips for Summer

As we enter into the summer months, it’s only natural to start spending more time outdoors, in the sun, and enjoying all that fresh air. And while people make the assumption that it is the winter months that are the hardest on your skin, in reality, all that sunshine, warmth, and humidity can be just as harsh on your skin – especially the delicate skin on your face. So, how do you make sure that you keep your skin looking healthy and vibrant all summer long?

Here we’ll take a look at some summer skin tips that you can use to create your own skincare routine. You’ll get almost immediate results and you’ll find that lovely healthy glow will stick with you all season.

Sunscreen Is an Absolute Must

One of the best ways to prevent damage, dark spots, dryness, and the early signs of aging is to ensure you’re wearing sunscreen each and every day. Sunscreen is a vital step in ensuring your skin stays healthy. And don’t forget, sunscreen isn’t just a summer thing; rather it is necessary year-round.

As for what level of SPF protection you need for your face, the American Academy of Dermatology recommends SPF 30 or higher. If you happen to have very fair skin and/or burn easily when in the sun, then you’ll definitely want to get something higher than SPF 30. Because people tend to sweat a lot in the summer, and swim, it’s also a good idea that your summer sunscreen is waterproof.

Keep in mind there are a few tips for applying sunscreen. First you want to be sure you are applying a liberal amount, and that you reapply every two hours while out in the sun. If you happen to be sweating a lot or you go swimming, sunscreen needs to be reapplied after you dry off.

Use a Lightweight Moisturizer

Another tip is to use a lightweight moisturizer on your face. This is especially true if you have oily or combination skin as you are probably producing extra levels of “greasiness” thanks to sweating in the hot sun. Gel and water-based moisturizers are an excellent option as they sink into the skin right away and don’t leave a heavy or greasy residue, yet they offer optimum levels of moisture.

Be sure to look for one with hyaluronic acid as it works to draw moisture to your skin and lock it in. It also gives an instant plumping look to any fine lines you may have and leaves your skin looking healthy and glowing.

Embrace What a Hydrating Serum Can Do for Your Skin

A hydrating serum is another fabulous product to have in your arsenal as this works deeper than your moisturizer and can perform a different task. Serums can help to offer deep and lasting hydration, calm the skin, help to reduce the early signs of aging, calm any redness and aging, reduce skin irritation, and more.

Exfoliate Your Skin

The final tip is to make sure that you exfoliate your skin on a regular basis so that you can reveal that fresh, glowing, and healthy skin. Ideally it should be a gentle exfoliation, as you don’t want to be using anything too harsh or potentially damaging to your skin. There are both physical and chemical exfoliating treatments you can use at home, so make sure you’re using just one at a time, not both.

Your Road to Healthy and Glowing Skin

By following these simple tips and including them in your daily skincare routine, you’ll find that you are able to reveal that most beautiful, healthy, and glowing looking skin this summer.

Tata Harper: The Green-Beauty Goddess Ups Her Game for Her Namesake Skincare Line

Scouting the world, Tata Harper is always striving to improve her eponymous skincare line and beautify her loyalists to the max, naturally, with nontoxic, hyper-potent, and uncompromising ingredients.

First came the “essence,” which launched early in the new year. “Essences are supposed to be penetrating enhancers to moisturize your skin, and this formulation has 5 to 250 kilodaltons of molecular weight! That is really small, so that it can get to the deepest layers of your skin,” Tata Harper shares with much pride. “And it helps to reduce redness and even reduces darkening spots. This composition is 100 percent.” She is speaking of her beloved Hydrating Floral Essence, a true hydrating booster with dual-weight hyaluronic acid that provides intense hydration but is super-lightweight with natural scents that calm your mind and spirit within seconds. Combined with nature’s goodies like rose, lavender, and neroli, hydrosols provide a smoothing effect, while the anti-oxidant floral blend helps to fight free radicals, preparing your skin for the next step in care.

That brings us to the Hydrating Floral Mask, a multi-hyaluronic treatment that has proven to improve hydration by 46 percent, even after 24 hours of application, and provide a 100 percent decrease in redness for the flushed, rosacea-prone skin type. This formulation was one-and-a-half years in the making, and it houses 2,000 kilodaltons, drenching every layer of your skin, from sub-dermis to fascial layer, to plump up the skin. “It’s like a creamy gel and has amazing redness reduction. Do a thin layer, but if you’d like to go to sleep with it at night, do a thicker layer. Moreover, to remove, don’t wash it off. Use the essence, which turns the mask into a milky texture, which you can tissue off to keep all the goodness on your skin,” Harper explains.

Comprising ingredients from 25 countries, this is indeed global technology. “Ingredients from 25 countries and 43 high-performing actives, that’s intense!” So why this mask now? “We didn’t have a mask for moisture. I think that masks, the way I see it, are medicine-cabinet items. One day you’re dull, you need a glow. Another day you’re congested and you need purification. Another day you’re blemish-full and breaking out, you need purifying. I have all that in the line, but I didn’t have one for moisture.” But the real reason Harper hadn’t made one way sooner is that she was never satisfied with the technology in existing moisturizers. But now, she says, “hydration technology in the last three years in the natural spaces has exploded. The sizes of hyaluronic acids and the options on barriers, as in how to keep things inside of your skin, have advanced so much!”

Utilizing advanced applied science from England, Germany, and Israel, and with hyaluronic acid extracted via fermentation technology from tremella mushrooms from the Czech Republic, this reformulated magic mask, launched only a couple of months ago, has ten molecular grades of hyaluronic acid, and drenches the deepest layer of the skin. With a floral blend derived from the Australian Coastline, which addresses skin’s redness, and rich vitamins and minerals like eskolaite, squalene, and vitamin F, it has already become a classic. Topping off the lineup launching at the end of May is the Hyaluronic Gel Moisturizer. Harper calls it a “weightless daily hydrator,” and that is an undeniable fact. It’s made with all of the advanced hyaluronic-acid technology mentioned earlier and has the appropriate gel-water technology powered by chia-seed water from the U.S.A. and marsh samphire from France. What’s more, it incorporates tremella-mushroom technology (which expands two times in weight in water) and even banana flower from Thailand. This powerful combination provides clinically proven redness reduction, plumping and smoothing, and protective antioxidants. Can you say, “Uncompromised power of non-toxic weightless hydration?” Naturally.

Your Full Body Rejuvenation

Beauty

Quick fixes will have you looking your best for the summer when you have no time for downtime. Keep in mind that treatments are individualized, so a fix that’s great in one instance may not be appropriate for someone with a similar—though not identical—problem. All treatments should be performed by a well-trained, experienced, board-certified physician—plastic surgeon, dermatologist, facial plastic surgeon or occuloplastic surgeon—with a refined aesthetic eye and an evolved skill set to produce a natural appearance artistically.

LOOKING JOWLY

QUICK FIX: HYALURONIC ACID. With a social engagement just around the corner and no time for bruising to heal, the quick fix is a Hyaluronic Acid filler such as Juvederm or Perlane. Alternatives such as Radiesse, calcium- based filler which is more likely to cause bruising, or Sculptra, an injectable that requires two to three treatments, would not be appropriate “quick fixes.”

LOOKING ANGRY OR SAD

QUICKEST FIX: DYSPORT. Sagging brows can make you look sad or angry and hide the beauty of the upper eyelid. Botox, Dysport and Xeomin are all forms of botulinum toxin and are referred to as neuromodulators. Injected in a similar manner as you would to soften the frown lines and crows’ feet, you can elevate and reshape the brows, eliminating the sad or tired appearance. While not yet household names, Dysport and Xeomin are FDA approved, and they have the same core structure as Botox. Dysport has the most rapid onset of action, often within 48 hours.

DARK CIRCLES

THE FIX: RESTYLANE OR PERLANE. A hallmark of youth is a blending of the lower lid and cheek. As we age, the cheek descends, and the lid-cheek junction becomes distinct, often with a depression or deep semicircle—a “tear trough.” Filling the tear trough with either Restylane or Perlane minimizes the prominence of the lid-cheek junction and gives the illusion that the cheek has been elevated, which effects shadows and makes dark circles appear less prominent. There may be noticeable bruising after the treatment that may be difficult to camouflage and can last up to a week—so the fix is not so quick.

ROSACEA

QUICK FIX: MIRVASO. Rosacea is a skin disease that causes redness of the cheeks, chin and forehead. In warm weather, the tiny blood vessels that make the skin red dilate, making the redness more prominent. Spicy foods and alcohol are also triggers that make there redness worse. While there are laser treatments that can help diminish the redness, there has never been a truly effective treatment until now-Mirvaso (brimonidine) topical gel. The gel is applied once a day to the affected areas and begins to take its effect minimizing redness in as little as 30 minutes. It has a maximum effect of six to twelve hours.
