British M, is one of Korea’s top luxury salon hair brands.  It is known for its innovative technology and commitment to the environment and a healthier world.

Great news, it is OK if she used your products, the morning after. British M products are gender-neutral, eco-friendly, recyclable, and made from sustainable resources with no animal testing. So far so good.

British M products have been known to be used by celebrity stylists including those in the high-powered Korean music and entertainment industries.  Let’s see what this masculine guy from Florida thinks!

I consider myself a well-rounded groomer, I believe in staying in shape, and opening doors for my date. I love to cook, that’s thanks to my Grandmother, who believed men too should know their way around the kitchen.

Too many men fail to recognize the importance of personal hygiene, staying in shape, showering, and being well-groomed. Don’t just slap on any cologne, or grab your brother’s hair products, and for some guys, you know who you are, showering when you think you need it, is out of the question.

Be sure to look for quality over quantity, stop using poor-quality hair products, filled with chemicals, they can cause harm by affecting your scalp and hair follicles. Do your research when it comes to picking hair care products, trust me, ingredients & formulations matter.

No more using the combed shampoo, conditioner, if you shop for the least expensive products you’ll get what you pay for.

BRITISH M Airy Wave Cream

After sampling British M products over the last 2 weeks, here’s my review. I was not thrilled with the scent from the Wave Cream but felt it offered moisture to my hair, especially with living in Florida, my hair tends to get dry. It was easy and flexible to work with.

BRITISH M Dandy

The British M. Dandy paste was one of my favorites. It offered volume and held my hair firmly in place without causing a sticky residue.

BRITISH M Kombucha Shampoo

The Kombucha shampoo is of good quality, the scent it’s sweet but offers a natural smell, definitely unique and masculine. I’m not a fan of over potent fragrance, it tends to fight with our cologne.

BRITISH M Kombucha Mask

Their Kombucha Mask, I enjoyed, the scent, not too overpowering again, a fresh clean scent. After the mask treatment, I did notice the difference in my hair.

BRITISH M Urban Matte Clay

The matte clay reminded me of professional barber styling wax. I like the sculpting results it gave my hair an all-day hold. The scent was fresh and not overbearing.

All in all, I give British M’s product a 7 out of 10, reasonably priced, you can purchase on Amazon and I was cool with the results.

Younghee Kim, founder of Younghee Salon in Tribeca, has focused on natural hair care throughout her career. A 30-year industry veteran, she began working with Vidal Sassoon, and spent 12 years as the company’s New York creative director. She founded her Manhattan salon in 2000, and eventually moved it to Tribeca. It nows resides in a 1910 historic building on North Moore Street. Recently Younghee launched her first natural hair care product line, Essential Rinse.

Essential Rinse, a natural hair care product made from all natural ingredients, is designed to gently remove residue from hair care products and the stresses of air pollution. Our Downtown editors tried both formulas and found that they perform beautifully. They leave hair shiny and soft and even helped our regular shampoo and hair care products work better. Essential Rinse purifying scalp and hair toner comes in two formulas: Clarifying, made from apple cider vinegar and botanicals, and Refreshing, with essential oils of spearmint and peppermint. Both formulas are most effective when used between shampoo and conditioner. They are perfect for use between washings, or after a workout. The rinses are safe and gentle enough to use daily.

Essential Rinse Clarifying combines apple cider vinegar with a blend of botanicals such as lavender, chamomile, and rose, and leaves hair fresh smelling and soft. The product smells pleasantly of apple cider vinegar in the bottle, however the ACV scent did not remain in the hair, instead leaving our tresses smelling super clean, and slightly herbal. In addition, ACV helps to balance the scalp’s pH, and the rinse also contains honey to moisturize and condition.

The Refreshing formula has essential oils of spearmint and peppermint and smells delicious both in the bottle and in the hair. The essential oils have antibacterial properties, which help stimulate hair follicles and awaken the senses with the eye-opening zing of mint. Refreshing is pH neutral, and perfect for color-treated hair.

Recap Of The Helen Castillo AW18 Show Collaboration With YANTRA Beauty

NYFW has come to an end, and we already miss the fashion buzz and energy in New York City. The 80s made a big comeback this year, with fabulous bright colors, bold patterns, and fun model swirl. Fashion is not only the visual people are looking at during the week. Fashionistas are paying attention to makeup and hairstyles as the models strut down the catwalk. An eye stopping presentation that Downtown noticed was The Helen Castillo runaway in collaboration with YANTRA Beauty.

YANTRA Beauty is a boutique hair care and lifestyle brand to help educate customers about the products they use. They focus on your personal style and can help to streamline your typical daily routine. Their products are made with rare and natural ingredients to bring any type of hair back to life.

The show was at 230 Fifth Penthouse and included looks from Helen’s Autumn/Winter 2018 collection. YANTRA Beauty took a spin on the beauty aspect of the show with the help of the creative director and renowned hairstylist Luca Burnett. These YANTRA Beauty products were used in the show “Freshman Lineup” including the “Reign Supreme” serum and “The Bomb” styling balm.

Andy Rah

Were you always in the beauty industry? Or did you start out on a different path?

Andy Rah: I started out in management consulting out of college, and I spent about eight years doing that. I realized that it wasn’t what I wanted to do in the long run, though, so I went back to business school to get my MBA.

How did you get your start in the hair care industry?

AR: I actually got my start in New York City, interning for L’Oreal USA working on the Garnier Fructis brand. I loved the industry so much that I took a full time job there, working on the L’Oreal Paris haircare brands for three years before moving to Texas to be closer to my future wife. From there, it just kept going as I spent five years with TIGI before ending up here at Macadamia Beauty.

Do you think that there are any misconceptions about proper hair care?

AR: Some people are trained to think that just because a shampoo is sulfate-free, it’s safe for their hair color. That’s not always the case — the surfactant system, which creates the lovely foam in a shampoo, whether it’s sulfate-free or not may be unsafe for color. There are a lot of variables involved; Macadamia Professional shampoos are all tested and proven to be great for color-treated hair. They do happen to be free of sulfates, parabens and gluten as well, but consumers should be careful and do more research to make sure they aren’t washing their expensive hair color down the drain!

What is a typical day like for you working for Macadamia Professional?

AR: I wish I could say it was all photo shoots and New York Fashion Week glamorous, but a lot of my role is making sure all of the details are covered. Working on budgets, in-store merchandising, promotions, social/digital/PR campaigns, e-commerce, planning for the future and trying to figure out where to take our brand next. We’re always looking for the next big thing to wow our salon and retail customers as well as bringing something innovative to our consumers.

What is coming up for Macadamia? Any new products? Partnerships? Promotions?

AR: We are coming up on summer, so we always feature our Endless Summer collection of products. We also have our liter-sized shampoos and conditioners for sale through our independent salon partners and premium retail partners like Ulta and Beauty Brands; definitely a great time to stock up! We just launched our Foaming Root Boosting Spray and our Thermal Protectant Spray earlier this year. Definitely more exciting products coming out in the second half of the year as well.

What is your favorite Macadamia Professional product?

AR: I think the Tousled Texture Finishing Spray is a must-have. You just spray it into the hair — not on it, but into the layers — shake your head, and voila, instant volume and texture! Gives you big Texas hair, without a lot of work.

When not busy with Macadamia what do you like to do for fun?

AR: I like traveling, playing sports and most of all, cooking and eating. I have a six-year old daughter, Delaney, and four-year old son, Tristan, and they both make homemade pasta with me already. They love cooking because they see how much fun I have doing it. I was definitely an aspiring chef in a past life! Plus, I just love to eat.

Do you have tickets to any upcoming concerts or events?

AR: Whenever I am in New York, I try to stop in and see whatever show my niece, Ellie Kim, is in. Right now, she’s a swing playing seven roles in School Of Rock on Broadway. Her and the other kids are so amazingly talented, it’s unbelievable what they can do as a group of 10-year olds. I think my sister has been to the show about 30 times already!

Do you have a favorite restaurant in New York?

AR: This is an easy one: Wolfgang’s Steakhouse. I used to live a few blocks from the one on Park Avenue. The bacon appetizer and the Porterhouse steak are two of my favorite dishes anywhere. Wolfgang’s was started by someone who was with Peter Luger’s for a long time, so you know his restaurants are born out of one of the quintessential, original New York Steakhouses.

Finally, any last words on why you love New York?

AR: That’s pretty easy for me; being able to get anything I want to eat, whenever I want to eat it! Of course, the energy, vibrancy, diversity and the variety of things to do is unparalleled, but when I’m in New York, it’s all about the food.
