The coffee starts pouring at 8:00 AM — and it’s damn good espresso — and there are 16 wines on tap at 11am. Morning treats are from Dough, the afternoon menu moves to cheeses from Saxeby and the evening to small plates like branzino ceviche, tempura broccolini, homemade gnocchi and lamb chorizo.

  1. NY Disco Fever

Museum Of Sex (Flatiron)

Sunday-Thursday from 10:00 AM to 9:00 PM; Friday-Saturday from 11:00 AM to 11:00 PM (through Feb. 19)

Night Fever: New York Disco 1977-1979, The Bill Bernstein Photographs is an exhibition of 40 photographs and audio interviews, in an immersive installation that documents the “freedom and intoxication of the disco era.” Make sure to check out the pop-up disco, complete with an original Richard Long Audio System, guest DJs playing disco hits and a bar offering ‘70s style cocktails. FREE.

  1.  Books, Booze Board Games

Housing Works Bookstore Cafe (SoHo) Friday, Feb. 10 from 6-8pm

Every Friday night in February, Housing Works Cafe will be hosting a night of board games, books and booze. We are looking forward to taking a break from the news to play a few games, read a few lines and enjoy cafe specials, among which is a $20 bottle of wine and the famous homemade glögg. FREE.

Friday, Feb. 10 and Saturday, Feb. 11 at 12:00 AM

A cult classic, Hal Ashby’s dark romantic comedy is about an unlikely friendship between a 20-year old Harold, obsessed with death, and a quirky 80-year old Maude.  It’s a much needed reminder about our need to connect with others, and unconditional acceptance. Tickets: $12.

  1. Michelle Buteau’s Low-Budget Talk Show

The Green Space (South Village)

Thursday Feb. 9 and Friday, Feb. 10 at 7:30 pm

A little serious and a whole lot of funny,  Michelle Buteau’s Low-Budget Talk Show, with musical sidekick Rob Lewis, covers “food, sex, Beyoncé and everything in between.” Thursday’s guest is fashion designer and stylist Carson Kressley while friday’s is The Read co-host Crissle West, comedian Baratunde Thurston and chef Sunny Anderson.  Tickets $15.

  1. Disney Rock Party

Saturday, Feb. 11 at 8:00 PM

Adult life is hard, and at some point we all want to go back to being kids watching Saturday morning cartoons and eating sugary cereal. This Saturday night get your wish without totally losing your cool as the Little Mermen, a Disney rock cover band, will take you back in time to sing all your favorite Disney songs, with a little edge. This intimate – which in New York means not swarming with tourists – skate rink at The Standard is our go-to place for a spin on the ice, alone or with that special someone. Grab a hot-something – cider, toddy and chocolate are all on offer – and you’ve got the perfect date night. Tickets are $13 with $4 skate rental; kids $6 with $4 skate rental.

Those who prefer cold, raw cookie dough over a warm, baked cookie can get their fill of the stuff at the new raw cookie dough shop. It’s completely safe and served much like ice cream. Flavors include oatmeal and M&M’s, brownie batter, peanut butter snickerdoodle, and salty and sweet.

2.Board Game Night

Put down your phone, grab some friends, and head to Uncommons, Manhattan’s one and only board game cafe. Here you’ll find classics like Checkers, Backgammon, and Risk as well as more obscure titles. The Uncommons serves beer, so make a night of it. $5 per person.

  1. Chinese New Year Party

China Institute (Financial District)

The Chinese New Year Celebration at the China Institute includes an afternoon of fun family activities where kids and adults can  learn to make lanterns and dumplings, and listen to stories. The day moves into evening with traditional foods, dance and live music. Tickets start at $5.

  1. New Vineyard Concert Series

City Vineyard (Financial District)

Tuesday, Jan. 31 at 8:30 PM

Voices On The Hudson, the new, intimate concert series at City Vineyard will host a an array of musical guests this winter. Tuesday, acoustic blues artist John Hammond takes the stage. There are a limited number of tickets — $20.

  1. Unicorn Milkshake

New Territories (Lower East Side)

Sunday-Wednesday from 1:00 PM to 10:00 PM; Thursday-Saturday from 1:00 PM to 11:00 PM

A new dessert shop on the Lower East Side proves that the unicorn food trend is not over. New Territories’ Unicorn Parade milkshake is made from Van Leeuwen vanilla ice cream and ube. The mason jar in which this sweet beast is served is then coated with chocolate and rainbow sprinkles and garnished with marshmallows on Pocky sticks.

4. Chinese New Year Firecracker Ceremony

We hope year of the Rooster — a sign known for its resourcefulness, courage, loyalty, hard work and talent — promises to bring those same qualities to 2017. Join the festivities, drumming, lion dancers and firecrackers, at the 18th Annual New Year Firecracker Ceremony and Cultural Festival. FREE.

5. Scotch and Poetry

January 25, 1759 marks the birthdate of 18th-century Scottish poet Robert Burns. To celebrate, Analogue is offering a special Scotch flight, which will feature a Highland single malt Dalmore 12 Year with rich coffee and spice notes; the complex, nutty sherry-cask-aged Balvenie 12 Year Doublewood from Speyside; and the heavily peated, smoky Ardbeg 10 Year from Islay. $40.

The National Museum of Mathematics and Flatiron Partnership are celebrating winter solstice with a giant math problem. 6. Gramercy Park opens its Gates

The biggest holiday treat does not come in a box, but in the form of a key. Though you won’t actually get the key to the uber exclusive Gramercy Park (Manhattan’s only private park), trustees of this two-acre paradise will open its gates to the general public for some holiday caroling. 7. Colonial Christmas

Did you know that Christmas was once banned in America? Not that that stopped settlers from merry making on the down low. The Fraunces Tavern Museum takes a step back in time to explore early American holiday traditions through poetry, “English carols, American folk hymns, dance tunes and drinking songs.” $15 tickets includes one wassail drink.

8. Winter Wonderland Rooftop Bar

Head up to the rooftop bar at Arlo Hotel for spectacular views and an array of spiked holiday drinks. The seasonal pop-up, Winter Land, has turned the space into a Christmasy ski-lodge that serves gingerbread-man jello shots, mulled wine, candy cane shooters and hot chocolate martinis.

9. Black Fashion Designers

The Fashion Institute of Technology honors the contribution of black designers in a new show called “Black Fashion Designers.” Covering over 60 years of history, the shows features original creations from Zelda Wynn Valdes, Ann Lowe, Arthur McGee, Wesley Tann, Jon Weston, Willi Smith, Patrick Kelly, Nkhensani Nkosi and others. FREE.

10. Welcome Back Union Square Cafe!

It was a day of mourning when Union Square Cafe closed its doors in 2015. But when one door closes, another one opens. In this case, Union Square Cafe’s new digs are double the size of its original home. It still looks and feels like Union Square, but better. On the menu, you’ll find staples like the tuna burger, calamari fried in graham cracker crumbs and banana tart alongside plenty of new items to fall in love with. Welcome back!

11. Ring in the New Year with Yoga

For a more inspirational New Year’s Day, one dedicated to the arts, observations and self expression, why not spend the day and night listening to 150 poets (among them Tracie Morris, Eileen Myles, Edgar Oliver, Tommy Pico and Hannif Willis-Abdurraqib) read their work at the annual New Year’s Day Marathon Benefit Reading. $25.
