A Rocking Good Time at Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Tampa

They say that Rock n Roll is a lifestyle–a way of life. You can build cities out of it. And while Tampa, Florida wasn’t built on Rock n Roll, Tampa’s Hard Rock Hotel & Casino is. And with the completion of their expansion, Tampa, Florida, is finally ready for you to rock and roll all night and party every day.

So what would you need to live the rock star life? Glitz, glamour, and opulence. And Hard Rock is filled with it. Bright lights fill the gambling floors, offering every kind of game for every price point. Swim through the sea of lights, and you’ll find a restaurant, a venue, or recreational experience. Want a stack of pancakes? Fresh sashimi? A perfectly marbled steak? Or maybe you want to grab a drink and watch live music? It’s all there.

And live music is everywhere. Hard Rock Tampa features multiple stages, ranging in size from hundreds to more than a thousand. Their largest stage holds 1500 people and hosts internationally-renowned singers, comedians, and performers. Between all of their locations, you are guaranteed a show, with more as you get closer to the weekends.

If you are just there to relax, you’re also covered there. A beautiful pool ringed with cabanas, and a long poolside bar forms the center of the hotel and casino. Stop by for a swim, or a full day lounging in the sun. Finished with your tan? Hang out at the bar and watch a game over drinks. Just to the side of the pool, explore Hard Rock’s ‘Rock Spa & Salon,’ where you can treat your body and spirit with their brand new 26,000 sq ft facility. Enjoy a massage, a therapeutic facial, or a workout class in Hard Rock’s state-of-the-art fitness center. Hey–even rock stars need time to relax.

And the food. I mentioned it earlier, but it is worth mentioning again. Restaurants range from casual and cool, like the Hard Rock Cafe, to the stately, with Council Oak Steaks & Seafood. Both, by the way, feature live music. Whatever food you want, they’ve got it. A special shout-out to Council Oak Steaks & Seafood, and their supreme cuts of meat–I even follow their Executive Butcher on Instagram just to see the latest cuts. But don’t miss out on your chance to try out all 13 of their dining locations.

The Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Tampa takes its Rock n Roll soul to heart. Its vast collection of memorabilia, its multiple venues, its delicious food, is all a celebration of our urge to cut loose, indulge, and treat yourself in ways that you can’t at home. If you want to rock and roll all night, Hard Rock is always open.

Seminole Hard Rock Goes Big On Hollywood Guitar Expansion

By Dan Metz, Associate Editor

This fall, Hard Rock Cafe, Inc. is looking to change the shape of their franchise–and the size of their Rock ‘n Roll–with what CEO Jim Allen calls “the world’s biggest guitar.” This 400 ft tall guitar-shaped hotel is part of an expansion to Hard Rock’s Hollywood, FL hotel and casino, part of a $2.2 billion dollar expansion encompassing the Hollywood and Tampa facilities.

The expansion comes after record growth around the world, especially in their home state of Florida. According to Allen, these facilities have been operating at 98% occupancy since their opening, limiting their ability to expand and advertise. The move would add more than 2000 new rooms, as well as introducing some new features to the Hollywood location befitting a facility made, in part, into a giant guitar.

At “The Guitar-Shaped Hotel”, the pool is less of a place you go than a place you’re already at. The “Bora Bora Experience” is a tropical waterscape out of a Bond movie, stretching out from the hotel like a beachfront. If you don’t like walking, the “lakeside” Oasis Tower features swim suites: rooms with a porch that backs up to an exclusive pool for easy swimming. If that’s too far from the water, guests can rent full-service tipis built into the waterscape.

Of course, the heart of The Guitar-Shaped Hotel’s rock n roll spirit is the new, state-of-the-art Hard Rock Live, a 6500-seat entertainment venue capable of hosting A-list performing artists, major award shows, and anything in between. Designed to keep thousands of attendees as close as possible to the action, its farthest seat is only 165 ft away from the stage.

The Tampa and Hollywood facilities are both scheduled to open in October of 2019, only a few weeks apart. Booking for Tampa’s new facility, which opens on the 3rd, will start accepting bookings on June 5th. Hollywood’s Guitar-Shaped Hotel opens the 24th and will start accepting bookings on July 24th.

Head to Hollywood Beach Florida to Take Advantage of the New Costa Hollywood Beach at a Discounted Rate

Hollywood Beach in South Florida has always been a sweet spot close to South Beach Miami yet off the radar, meaning no paparazzi. It’s a great place for ecotourism and to connect with nature. Hollywood Beach has the most open space and nature preserves and even keeps the city lights very low so turtles can come nest under the stars on a two-mile swath of North Beach.

With a large eco-park and two eco-golf courses nearby, Hollywood Beach is the place to rent an electric canoe and explore the dense mangroves of West Lake Park or walk the boardwalks and get away from it all and just embrace the natural side of South Florida. There is a two and a half mile long auto-free “Broadwalk” that has a quirky collection of restaurants, shops, and fabulous people watching.

The only problem with Hollywood Beach was the lack of high end hotel options. There was only the Tommy Bahama Marriott or Parrot Head Margaritaville, neither of which offers the luxury experience savvy travelers seek. Until now. The new minimalist modern Costa Hollywood Beach is in soft openings and Hollywood Beach will never be the same.

The 27,000 square foot rooftop terrace features a heated infinity pool and the hotel’s first restaurant Cielo, which offers a simple menu full of variety, perfect for snacking, lunch, or dinner overlooking the Intercoastal Waterway to the West and the crashing waves of the Atlantic to the East.

Cielo is just the start of the food offerings; an Argentinean Steak House is set to open off the lobby in the near future. The lobby is also home to a chic coffee bar to get your day going and an on-duty concierge that can set up private boat charter to pick you up across the street on the Intercostal. If you prefer, grab a prepared picnic lunch and couple of beach chairs to go up to the darkest part of North Beach and watch the Turtles mate under the stars.

There are multiple types of rooms available, and all three hundred of them are extremely well appointed and very chic. Simple, high-end finishes and fixtures and mini kitchens give the Costa a homey vibe. Rooms have western Intercostal views or East facing oceanfront skylines, and most have private terraces from which to enjoy the fresh sea air. There is well appointed gym complete with a roped off boxing area and daily rooftop yoga offerings to help you reach new fitness peaks while enjoying your beach time.

The Costa is offering special soft opening discounted rates this Winter and Spring, giving you the perfect reason to come down and check out Hollywood Beach, the cool new alternative to South Beach.

Hard Rock Hotel Daytona Beach: Quintessential Americana with an Eye Toward Luxury

Toss an electric guitar in the back of a ‘55 Corvette, strap some surfboards on top and you’ve got a recipe for the newest addition to an established cultural mainstay: Hard Rock Hotel Daytona Beach. While this new development in one of America’s most iconic beach destinations lives up to its namesake with a labyrinth of rock, pop, hip-hop and country music memorabilia, it doesn’t coast along on nostalgia alone. This 200-room hotel has its finger on the pulse of modern luxury, and it will remind you of this at every turn.

Rear Hard Rock Hotel Daytona Beach

Developer Summit Hospitality, in partnership with the Florida-local Hard Rock International brand, appropriately kicked off the opening of this newly renovated hotel last week with musical performances by up-and-coming country music stars Lanco and the husband-and-wife duo Juno Smile. These performances may have been the first, but they certainly won’t be the last events at this hotel, as Hard Rock Hotel Daytona Beach will be putting on concerts and events on a monthly basis. “Otherwise, it would be boring,” joked Summit co-owner Junior Abdulhussein.

Now expanded from its roots as a single, quaint cafe in London, its latest Daytona Beach installation represents the Hard Rock brand’s 24th hotel, with many more on the way. Indicating a transition from boutique to chain, this increasing number of properties could potentially hint at a depersonalization of the brand, but according to their Director of International Marketing, Vince Koehle, that’s not the case. “We take inspiration from the community,” he explains, going on to emphasize how important each destination is to every aspect of the properties and their accompanying experiences.

Daytona Beach Chairs

Take, for instance, Daytona Beach, which hearkens back to thoughts and images of muscle cars, surfers, striking beach views and the classic American vacation. From the surfboard table in their lobby cafe to the winding hallway featuring rare photos of The Beatles and The Rolling Stones goofing around beachside and vintage automobile design details, the local inspiration is clear-cut.

While the concept of a luxury beach hotel isn’t exactly groundbreaking, what is surprising is the elevated attention to detail in this new property. Every room, every hallway reveals a new kitschy piece of interesting memorabilia, a new coastal-inspired piece of decor or a throwback to Daytona Beach’s sand racing heyday that you haven’t yet stumbled upon.

Hard Rock Hotel Guitar in Room

Another surprising slice of the experience offered at Hard Rock Hotel Daytona Beach is the brand’s sheer dedication to its theme. Infusing music with the destination experience is what this brand is built upon, and they do it just as well as you’d imagine – often better. The Sound of Your Stay® program is aimed at providing guests with an experience that’s just as musical as it is tailored to the individual. This program consists of three different services: PICKS, WAX and TRACKS. PICKS is offered through Hard Rock Hotels’ partnership with Fender Guitars, one of America’s most prominent guitar manufacturers, and provides each and every room with its own guitar, amplifier and studio-quality headphones for the guests to play at their leisure; WAX provides guests with Crosley record players and a curated selection of vinyl; and TRACKS offers hotel goers a hand-selected, downloadable playlist designed to enhance and complement their visit.

The treatments in the hotel’s Rock Spa are music-centric, the bedding is clad in musical instruments, there are underwater speakers in the beachside pool and the lobby is all but lined in Flying V guitars played by legendary rock stars – Hard Rock Hotel Daytona Beach is a music lover’s paradise. Memorabilia nerds will appreciate the small, knowing touches and far-out pieces of history, and those who aren’t as into music history can find solace in the more luxurious amenities like the Kohler shower fixtures, ring-lit mirrors and beach-view terraces.

Hard Rock Hotel Daytona Beach

While there’s plenty to look at this new addition to the Daytona Beach coastline, there’s also plenty to do. Sink your teeth into high-class local fare at their occupying restaurant, Sessions, which features a menu crafted around Florida-caught seafood, pasta, highbrow dessert options and inventive signature cocktails to keep the good times rolling, or grab a cup of Joe and a quick and healthy snack at the Constant Grind cafe. After you’ve refueled, hit the sand and enjoy this classic American beach to the fullest with nearby bike rentals, surf lessons, or simply snag one of the beachside lounge chairs and work on your tan.

Hard Rock Hotel Daytona Beach has a lot to offer, but it isn’t all in the location and their vast swathes of music memorabilia – the staff of this hotel make the experience complete. Summit Hospitality’s co-owner Junior Abdulhussein notes that he “doesn’t like calling them staff. They are family.” The sentiment shows, and whether you’re requesting room service, dropping your kids off at the Roxity Youth Club or ordering some poolside cocktails, there’s a fighting chance that you may make a new friend, and at the very least you’ll experience a taste of Hard Rock International’s particular brand of genuine hospitality.

Wave Terrace Hard Rock Hotel Daytona Beach

Hard Rock International has a presence in over 75 countries, and they have at least a dozen new properties in the works, according to their management team, with locations in Atlantic City, Singapore, London and Hollywood currently underway. With this spike in growth, will the brand be able to continue to successfully meld music with the cultures and influences of their hotel destinations without coming off as gimmicky or rubber-stamped? Only time will tell; but, in the meantime, we can throw on our shades, lay back and listen to the sounds of Hendrix and Bob Dylan softly accompanying the gulls and waves breaking on the shore.

Biking Through Miami

Anyone else tired of looking out the window at grey skies, dreary weather and numb hands after a few minutes out in the cold? We are too.

If the good weather won’t come to us, we might just have to go to the good weather ourselves. Weekend getaways are an ideal break for busy New Yorkers looking for breathing room and sunny weather.

There are so many wonderful cities to visit all over the US, meaning you don’t have to spend a ton of time on travel. Take Miami, FL for instance.

Schwinn Ambassador Jeanette Zinno recently took a trip to Miami and biked through its sunny streets — and she brought us along.

It was a quick welcomed escape from the chilly weather in New York City. The temperature in Miami averages 60-75 degrees in the winter, making it the warmest city in the US during this season and a perfect destination for biking. On this trip, I rode a Schwinn Cruiser, and to me this bike is the epitome of warm weather! It’s a comfortable, easy ride and I adored the mint green color and basket on this bicycle.

The city of Miami is even redesigning the street network in 2018 to create more bike lanes throughout the city.

OTL in the Design District

I started my day at OTL to grab some biking fuel A.K.A coffee and eggs; it’s a new spot in the Miami Design District that focuses on good food and craft coffee. It has a cute little casual outdoor dining area where you can prop up your bike and enjoy breakfast.

*Travel Tip: Get the Tortilla Española if you ever find yourself there!

The Wynwood Walls

After breakfast, I rode from the Design District to Wynwood to check out the Wynwood Walls. Launched during Art Basel, what began as a few commissioned murals to beautify the area morphed into the city’s only outdoor street art park, featuring more than 40 murals from a roster of world-renowned artists. It’s a great neighborhood to explore by bike!

*Travel Tip: In the actual outdoor museum you can’t walk around with your bike, but there are plenty of places to lock up your bike, so make sure to bring a bike lock.

Lolo’s Surf Cantina in Miami Beach

I then rode from Wynwood all the way down to Miami Beach, riding on the boardwalk next to the beach was gorgeous! I worked up an appetite and indulged in some delicious Mexican beachside bites at Lolo’s Surf Cantina. It’s located right off of the beach in the glamorous neighborhood of Miami Beach, which is famed for its colorful art deco buildings, white sand and surfside dining.

* Travel Tip: If you’re riding on the boardwalk, make sure you have a bell. Some of the paths can get very busy!

A Healthy Alternative to Cooking

With today’s busy schedules, sometimes fitness and nutrition fall to the back burner. We at Downtown have been sampling different delivery meal plans. Stay tuned for our continued Q&A with the founders of several food delivery companies.

For the past two weeks, we have had the delicious task of sampling Nutropia menu. What struck us most is that we no longer have to think about what we are going to eat, no need to worry about portion control or clean up. We simply open the prepackaged temperature controlled carry bags delivered each evening for the next day, each meal is labeled for the appropriate meal including two snacks. At the end of the day place the carry bag back outside your door or with your doorman.

This week Downtown Magazine had a chance to catch up with James Rappaport founder of Nutropia for a quick Q&A.

Eating well is the cornerstone of good health. With the help of certified nutritionists, you can customize a meal plan geared specifically towards you. Nutropia meals satisfy diets ranging 1200-3000+ daily calories. They can accommodate a variety of dietary requirements, fitness goals, and personal preferences.

1-Where did you grow up? I grew up in Fresh Meadows Queens since the age of 9.

2-What brought you to the fitness industry?

I started out in the health club industry when I opened Powerhouse Gym in Bayside at age 23 in 1996.  Then 6 years later after being in a very healthy environment of exercise and healthy eating, we decided to open Nutropia. We are the oldest company in the New York area (17 years and counting).

3-Had you tried other food/nutrition delivery services?

I have tried several others but none live up to what you come to expect from Nutropia. We have more variety and flexibility than all others.

4-Tell us a little about your motive behind Nutropia?

My former partner is no longer with us, he used to work for the original Zone. One day he came to me and asked if I was interested in getting into the business. Since I already lived a healthy life and was in the health and fitness field it seemed like a natural fit.

5- Who creates the menu and what makes each meal healthy & nutritional?

All menus are have been created by our chef who is a 4 year CIA graduate, dietician, and nutritionist. Our chef also lives a very healthy lifestyle.

6-Tell us a little about your team?

Well, I have a background in nutritional and physical fitness. Ranee Lafratta the lead Nutritional consultant and partner, runs the Florida office. Our head Chef Ashley Campisi oversees the New York operation and also coordinates with our Florida Chef and team to ensure the meals are exactly the same in Florida as they are in New York, consistency is key.  We also have a full team of qualified sous chefs and prep people who actually make the operation work.  It is a well-oiled machine in both locations.  Many of our team has been with us since the inception of our company.

7-Is the service for those who bodybuilders, want to lose weight or do not have the time to prepare meals?

Our plan is for everyone as we are not a one size fits all diet.  We are healthy convenience.  We have people who need to lose weight, people who have ailments, people who just want to eat good nutritious food and don’t have time to do it on their own as it takes a lot of time to shop and prepare these meals.  We have bodybuilder and athletes and busy professionals.  We service kids and older people as well.  So as you can see we accommodate most needs.  We have high protein low carb meals aka Paleo/Atkins.  We have balanced mixed meals and vegetarian options. We have something for everyone.

8-Which areas do you currently service and where do you hope to see Nutropia in 3 years?

We currently service the New York Metro area which includes New York and the 5 boroughs, Long Island (Nassau and Suffolk).  We service parts of New Jersey, Westchester and Greenwich Ct.  We also have a kitchen in west palm beach Florida that services the Southeast coast of Florida from Port St Lucie all the way down south to Miami and all areas in between. As for 3 years from now, that depends on our growth in our current areas as that is a vast area to cover. But as long as we stay on our current path we will expand further into CT and Jersey. As far as Florida the next step would be the west coast of Florida, but one step at a time as it is slowly growing there.

9- Can you share with us a success story of one of the Nutropia clients?

As for success stories, we have many but choose to respect the privacy of our clients. We have had many people come off their medications for high blood pressure, cholesterol and diabetes. We have had people lose the weight they want for that special occasion or event they are attending, or that race they needed to run. We had one woman who was divorced and down stick with us, get in shape and become a successful trainer. Then she entered a masters figure competition and won in part to our helping her with her diet to go along with her hard work and dedication. So needless to say we have many success stories as people have lost over 100 pounds with Nutropia. But you have to stick with it and with so much variety and good food it makes it that much easier to follow the plan and stick with it.
