Downtown:  How did you get involved with the Blue Jacket Show?

AL: You know, my grandfather passed away from prostate cancer, and when I heard about the show and then was asked to be a part of it, it was not even a question – to help out with this, spreading the word for people to go and get tested if that can save a few lives, I’m blessed to be a part of it.

Downtown: Why do you think men hesitate to get tested?

AL: It’s life or death! Just go get tested. If you’re up towards 40 years-old, get checked. There are different ways to get tested, you don’t have to go for the standard traditional testing. So go get tested, it’s the difference between life and death

Downtown: How was it out there hanging with the guys tonight on the runway?

AL: Oh, its such great fun with the guys, so much fun, always a good time, this is my third year and I can’t wait until next year!

Downtown: What is your favorite place Downtown?

AL: Tutto il Giorno and Indochine

Downtown: What did you think about walking in this show?

BS: It was awesome, it was my second time. Just to be with these people, getting awareness out there on social media, just getting the word out about prostate cancer.

Downtown: If you could tell anyone something about prostate cancer, what would it be?

BS: Go get checked.

Downtown:  What about this show made you want to get involved with Blue Jacket Fashion event?

NB: I love it when the fashion community comes together for an important cause, and prostate cancer is a major killer of men, so it was an honor to put my best foot forward, quite literally!

Downtown: What did you think about this year’s designer brands and models?

NB: Fabulous, from my eye-catching blue suit from Brooks Brothers to a skirt suit in plaid by Thom Browne, the other men and their outfits were as diverse as the population of men affected by Prostate Cancer.

Downtown: What message would you like to share with our readers about prostate cancer prevention?

NB: Men are notoriously bad at going to visit the doctor and often think they can beat the pain or simply don’t want to fuss but trust me, the manly thing to do is GET TESTED.

Downtown: What was is like to be back on the runway?

NB: I only wish we had a proper walk off…Blue Steel in full force for the Blue Jacket Fashion Show!

Dennis Basso’s Fall/Winter 2019 Collection is Made for the “New York City Girl”

Dennis Basso’s Fall/Winter 2019 New York Fashion Week runway show took place at Cipriani 42nd Street on February 11th. The show featured Olivia Palmero, Jennifer Nettles, Stephanie Seymour, Kelly Bensimon, Peter Brant Jr., Michelle Gomez, Miss J Alexander, Camille Kostek, and Carol Alt, who closed the show.

According to Basso, “The inspiration for this collection is the ‘New York City Girl.’ I think women around the world all have a desire to be a New York City woman. This allows her to experiment with fashion from high to low with a feeling of freedom, strength, and independence. The original New York City girl is our own statue of liberty that represents this woman from casual days to gala evenings. Our New York City woman never allows the clothes to wear here; she wears the clothes.

The silhouettes include haberdashery coats and jackets with feminine touches. Fabrics include cashmere, fox, sable, mink, chinchilla, shearling, dutchess satin, wool jacquard, mohair, and faux fur. After-five dresses and evening gowns have hand embellished flowers, beaded embroidery, animal print, metallic finishes, feathers, and hand pleating. Classic silhouettes include form-fitting gowns and strapless bodices with ball gown skirts. The color palette for this season is daffodil, café, aubergine, faded pink, and rose gold.

My vision for my New York City girl is for her to select pieces from the collection, experiment, have fun, and enjoy her fashion freedom.”

Chiara Boni Debuts European Inspired Collection

CHIARA BONI presented her Fall/Winter 2019 collection during New York Fashion Week on Friday, February 8th.

For the Fall/Winter 2019 season, Chiara Boni La Petite Robe updates her signature modern, dynamic and practical style with a hyper chic, regal attitude. Embarking on an imaginative trip across Europe, the designer reinterprets the refined aesthetic of the Old Continent, subtly echoing in the precious fabrics and rich embellishments.

The brand’s signature stretch jersey fabric, guaranteeing impeccable fit and outstanding comfort, is matched with new textiles, including plush velvet which gives a special touch to intriguing dresses and separates.  Velvet is also combined with taffeta in the sumptuous maxi dresses embellished with delicate bows and gets a corsetry-like treatment in sensual styles revealing seductive transparencies.

An homage to the European tailoring tradition, classic suiting patterns, including herringbones and checks, add a mannish feel to jumpsuits with applied pockets, suits, and frocks, all combining a sartorial attitude with an urban, functional appeal.

Balancing the military feel of the dresses printed with flocked Austrian knots, golden brocades with a 3D effect show the quintessentially feminine soul of the brand and metallic wallpaper-inspired patterns put the focus on its artsy side.

New peplum designs punctuate frocks and skirts with a sculptural effect, which is also conveyed through the roomy silhouettes of architectural coats showing geometric floral patterns. They are matched with fitted pieces, including the wide range of pants designed to exalt women’s bodies with perfect cut and strategic ergonomic details.

While opulent shoulders and ample sleeves continue to steal the spotlight, Chiara Boni La Petite Robe first introduces a selection of knitted pieces, including coats and crewnecks lined with the brand’s iconic jersey.

The collection’s overall sense of precious and sophisticated luxury is exalted by the color palette, which is focused on deep tones of black, rich red and green hues, enlightened by sparkling and charming gold accents.

Inspired by Stained Glass Windows, Pamella Roland’s Fall/Winter 2019 Runway Show Stuns

Pamella DeVos, President and Designer of PAMELLA ROLAND, channels her artistic appreciation and creativity into all of her collections, finding inspiration throughout her life and the world at large. Pamella designs for a confident woman with exceptional taste – one who demands a versatile wardrobe in which she feels polished and impeccable without forsaking her sensuality and femininity. Pamella strives to create clothes that allow women to comfortably exude their strength and beauty, while projecting innate elegance.

Tiffany glass and intricate stained-glass windows are the inspiration for this season’s collection. These concepts are applied through the use of embroideries, trim silhouettes, and prints. Window-like linear techniques are used throughout the collection, along with blending shades of bold and muted colors to represent the Opalescent technique used in Tiffany stained glass

The signature Pamella Roland silhouettes, reworked using new techniques, are each fashioned with exquisite fabrics including stretch crepe, degrade floral printed Mikado and organza, and various laces. The Fall-Winter embroideries include 3D floral appliques, pearls, colorful ostrich feathers, ornate metallic threadwork, ombre signature sequins, confetti beading, and liner mixed-element embellishments.
