Lavazza Café Is Part Of The New Eataly NYC Downtown

unnamed

Following the success of its cafés in flagship Eataly stores in New York and Chicago, Lavazza has opened a new café in Eataly’s third marketplace, which opened in Downtown Manhattan this month. Located within Tower 4 of the World Trade Center, the new Eataly NYC Downtown includes sprawling New York views and 5,000 square meters of space dedicated to Italian gastronomy. Photography and artwork behind the main counter is devoted to the ¡Tierra! Sustainability project, as shot by photographer Steve McCurry.

The popularity of Lavazza cafés located in Eataly marketplaces across Sao Paulo, Milan, New York and Chicago is reportedly drove the decision to open up in Eataly’s downtown location. This new Lavazza offers a full menu of espresso-based beverages and high-quality coffees, including a wide range of original and innovative recipes. At such, the Lavazza product range is also available for purchase for at-home use, including the renowned Single Origins: Santa Marta and Kilimanjaro.

Said Giuseppe Lavazza of Lavazza: “Our presence at Eataly NYC Downtown marks a new and important chapter in a compelling and long-standing partnership between Lavazza and Eataly — two Italian, Piedmontese companies working towards a shared vision, with an understanding that a significant part of Italy’s economic future revolves around high-quality food production.”

Lavazza continued: “The new location of Eataly NYC Downtown is very unique. Not only is it the site where one of the most heart-wrenching events in recent-day history happened, but it is also a place that symbolizes hope and enthusiasm for the future with significant social and economic growth potential, supported by sustainability and environmental protection efforts, the same values that are core for Lavazza.”

In 2015, the Eataly location in the Flatiron district counted five million visitors, and Lavazza reported sales of nearly 1.2 million coffee cups. This second Manhattan location is projected to exceed overall performance in terms of in-store traffic and quality customer engagement. Additional Eataly locations featuring Lavazza cafes are scheduled to roll out in Moscow and Boston later this year, and in Los Angeles and Bologna in early 2017.

Downtown Recommends: Two Hands

More foreign than the country from which it originated is the concept of this Australian café. The English dictionary defines a café as an establishment that primarily serves coffee, and may also serve light meals.

To Australians, cafés have a different denotation, and Sydney natives Giles Russell and Henry Roberts are bringing this fresh philosophy in the form of Two Hands.

“In every café in Australia amazing coffee is the standard, and there needs to be amazing food along with it. You would never go to a café without both,” said co-owner Giles Russell.

Two Hands offers quality coffee with equally delectable dishes. Russell and Roberts extensively searched for “the best coffee in the city,” and decided on Café Integral. The Nicaraguan-sourced coffee is sustainably farmed and brewed in New York.

The passion and dedication that emanates from the intimate process was what Russell and Roberts desired in their coffee program.

Two Hands’ menu features basic drinks: espressos, cold brews and lattes — to the Australian staple, the flat white. The flat white is microfoam (steamed milk made from fine bubbles with a velvety finish) poured over a shot of espresso. Flat whites have a dominate espresso flavor, harmonized with the milk.

In addition to its excellent brew, Two Hands serves simple, yet healthy food. Ingredients are locally sourced and organic to the largest extent possible, and contain little to no sugar.

“America has access to amazing quality produce, which is grown organic, local [and] consciously with the consumer in mind. Unfortunately, it’s easier for an American to go out and grab something that is full of sugar, corn and wheat, just like dead nutrients,” Russell explained.

Russell said his mission is to make “food easy, approachable, and attainable for people, which means making it affordable.” To do this, one ingredient should be able to speak for itself — a noteworthy example being the “Avo Toast”.

The “Avo Toast” is a hearty piece of bread topped with a gracious layer of avocado, sprinkled with black pepper, chili flakes and olive oil. Ingredients arrive daily: the bread is baked in the city every morning, while the organic avocados are delivered fresh.

From a holistic perspective, Two Hands’ healthy, approachable food and coffee are simply components to the overall experience. Russell and Roberts strive to emulate the warm hospitality found at home.

Russell describes Sydney as a friendly, open city that gives an uplifting experience to anyone who visits. This experience is what he tries to incorporate into his café.

“If we can create a space in the city where people feel at home and they can walk out with their day being made then we’ve done our job,” Russell said.

Wake Up With The Barisieur

The Barisieur wakes you up with a fresh cup of coffee

For some, waking up is the hardest part of the day. And many times, an alarming morning ringtone can leave you feeling groggy, unsettled, and downright unhappy. But mornings are important; it’s crucial to start your day off right.

Joshua Renouf seeks to reform your morning routine with The Barisieur, an alarm clock that brews coffee upon sounding. At night, owners of the device will set the alarm, load coffee beans and add sugar. Come morning, vibrating steel ball bearings will awake the sleeper, simultaneously signaling that the water is boiling.

As The Barisieur is still just a prototype, we’re anxiously awaiting its release to the market!
