The documentary is a behind-the-scenes exploration of Victoria Beckham’s journey to professional success; she’s gone from an international pop star to a well-respected fashion designer. Beckham talks about the transition, “I was a Spice Girl, married to a footballer. I was trying to do something that no one had really done before.”

Her team says in the documentary that “she is a perfectionist in terms of detail” and “sets the benchmark very high.” She’s definitely not afraid of hard work; she’s a gorgeous celebrity, mother of four children, wife to soccer star David Beckham, and runs a fashion empire. Beckham says she’s “always had to work hard for everything,” but she “wouldn’t have it any other way.”

The brand’s website features alot of video footage and interactive media, which they’ve expanded with the debut of “Five Years- The Victoria Beckham Fashion Story.” A member of her team explains, “Once you know the story behind anything, it’s more compelling.”

The Montauk Project To Rock The House At Fontana’s

boweryelectric
The Montauk Project is set to rock Fontana’s.

The Montauk Project, the band (not the sketchy U.S. Government psychological, time-traveling experiments of the 1980s), is an up and coming rock group from the distant reaches of Long Island’s East End.

Mark Schiavoni (guitar and lead vocals) and Jasper Conroy (drums and backing vocals) played together in high school, got back together after college, and added Chris Wood (bass) and Jack Marshall (lead guitar) to their crew. The foursome play only original songs, but get inspiration from some of rock’s most influential names including: Alice in Chains, Black Sabbath, Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, the Black Keys, etc.

Their music has elements of nostalgia, but with a fresh spin. The guys are 20something, long-haired surfers, and label their own sound “beach grunge.”

They’ve become well known throughout The East End, and in the last year they’ve brought their sound and rep to break The Big Apple.  The Montauk Project has performed at Webster Hall, Arlene’s Grocery, the Bowery Electric, and next Thursday, February 6th they’ll be at Fontana’s Bar in the Lower East Side.

Their debut album, Belly of the Beast, comes out in March, and features the hot single “The Beast” which dropped in early January. The press materials describe the song as a “grungy, metaphorical epic that depicts struggles with drug addiction as a fisherman’s quest to kill a mythological monster.” We describe it as…um…good.

Kate Moss’s Sister Makes Her Modeling Debut

In celebration of legendary model, Kate Moss’s 40th birthday today, the UK based magazine Dazed and Confused released an online preview of her little sister Charlotte Moss’s editorial debut. Charlotte, or Lottie, is Kate’s 16 year old half-sister who celebrated her own birthday on January 9th.

Last week, Lottie signed with Storm Model Management, the same modeling agency that discovered the original Ms. Moss at age 14. Lottie first drew attention at age 13, when she was spotted at Kate’s wedding to guitarist Jamie Hince in July 2011. She shares Kate’s wide eyes and high cheekbones, light blonde hair, and at 5’5″ is also shorter than average for a fashion model.

The spread was shot in London by photographers Sean and Seng with a definite 70’s vibe. Lottie is wearing looks by Dolce and Gabbana, Saint Laurent, and Miu Miu. The print edition hits newstands on Thursday, February 16th.

Diane von Furstenberg Celebrates 40 Years of Her Iconic Wrap Dress

Last Friday night in Los Angeles, Diane von Furstenberg celebrated the 40th anniversary of her iconic wrap dress. The Wilshire May Company Building hosted the party, where the “Journey of a Dress” exhibit was revealed and a limited edition collection announced.

Diane von Furstenberg, a Belgian-born Jewish designer, started her own company in 1970 with an investment of $30,000. In 1974, after a few years of hauling suitcases of jersey dresses to department stores, she created the wrap dress. Below, at age 23, is von Furstenberg pictured in the WWD announcement of her new design.

By 1979, her business was grossing $150 million a year in retail sales. Forty years later, Diane is still a top designer and a leader in the fashion world. She was named President of the Council of Fashion Designers of America in 2006, and has held the position since.

She created the DvF Awards in 2010, awarding $50,000 each to four women a year who show passionate commitment to women’s causes. She and her husband, media mogul Barry Diller, are committed to a number of different philanthropic pursuits. The pair have contributed more than $35 million to the High Line, the largest single donation to a park in New York City’s history.

Her revolutionary wrap dress is a permanent piece in the collection of the Costume Institue of the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Von Furstenberg’s mother, daughter, and grandaughter have all worn the dress, which, according to the designer, symbolizes “freedom, empowerment, and confidence.” Television personality Louise Roe (who scored her first job with BBC wearing a DVF creation) summed up the designer’s legacy at the Friday night opening; saying, “she’s the queen of girl power.”
