This week we are featuring one of the fantastic designers we saw at the Jim Villa Appointment two weeks ago. This jewelry line, Slight Jewelry, caught our eye immediately. It’s edgy, unique and clearly beautifully crafted. Read on to learn about the talented designer, Amanda Campbell, and how she started the line and what inspired her.
DOWNTOWN: Can you tell us about yourself? Where are you from? Why and how did you become a designer?
Amanda Campbell: I grew up in Tucson, Arizona and lived there for over 20 years. I went to school for marketing but I have always been a creative person. I took a few clothing design classes thinking that was the direction that I wanted to take my creativity but I just couldn’t seem to sew straight! I moved to Denver, Colorado and lived there for five years bartending full time while creating random craft projects in my free time. I have two older sisters that live in NYC and they were always trying to get me to move here, so almost three years ago I took that leap. It was here that I discovered my passion for jewelry and 3D printing. I love science fiction and felt like that aesthetic was really missing from the fine jewelry arena.
DOWNTOWN: Can you tell us about your line and the products that you sell? What sets you apart?
AC: The line is inspired by a combination of the Art Deco Era and Science Fiction with a focus on texture and details. I do both fine and fashion jewelry and my signature pieces are 14K Rose Gold with rare Grey Diamonds. What sets me apart is that all my pieces are made in NYC with rare, yet ethically sourced, stones, and many of the models were created via 3D printing.
