Steps on Broadway, Perelman Performing Arts Center (PAC NYC), and Silverstein Properties staged a World Trade Center pop-up dance event in celebration of National Dance Day.
The performance, which took place Saturday evening at 5 p.m. in WTC’s Bloomberg Plaza, marked the 45th anniversary of the renowned dance organization, Steps on Broadway. Passersby were treated to a joyful performance by 50 professional dancers, which showcased New York City’s vibrancy and the World Trade Center as a hub of arts and culture.

The event featured an original dance to Happy Music by Super Shy and choreographed by Derek Mitchell, the original dance supervisor and resident choreographer for Hamilton: An American Musical. The act was followed by Steps on Broadway Conservatory students performing an ode to Super Bowl halftime shows, with excerpts from past appearances by Beyonce, Lady Gaga, Madonna, Usher, and more. The segment was choreographed by Jona Biddle, who has worked with both Beyonce and Usher.
“There is no better way to celebrate New York City, National Dance Day, and Steps on Broadway than with a surprise pop-up performance right here at the World Trade Center,” said Courtney Squicciarini, Vice President of Digital Marketing and Communications at Silverstein Properties. “From nods to iconic Super Bowl halftime shows to fresh, unexpected choreography, today’s performance brings Lower Manhattan to life and captures the spirit that makes New York City unlike anywhere else.”
“Steps has been part of the fabric of New York City’s dance community for 45 years,” said Joe Lanteri, Executive Director of Steps on Broadway. “To celebrate that history with a performance here at the World Trade Center on National Dance Day is a powerful reminder of how dance continues to unite and uplift this city.”
