The Downtown Team all took time out of their day to vote. Read on to see what they have to say about this incredibly important election.

Founder/CEO Grace A. Capobianco: “Elections provide an important opportunity to advance and keep our democracy safe. We in the United States are lucky to have free civil liberties such as freedom of speech and the right to vote. Many forget about midterm elections. It’s important to know that midterms are focused on the two chambers of Congress, the U.S. Senate and the House of Representatives. All 453 seats are decided during midterm elections. In the United States of today, America’s democracy has never been on the line. Take a break and go VOTE.”

Managing Editor Linda Sheridan: “If you don’t use your voice, you don’t have one. Make sure you get out today, and every election day, to VOTE!”

Intern Lauryn Starke: “I’m voting in this election because we have a lot at stake. I want to see young, progressive leaders with open minds and fresh perspectives represent me in office. I think a lot of people don’t see how important midterm elections can be. This election will determine who has control of Congress, which is crucial when we’re talking about things like codifying abortion rights and protecting LGBTQ+ kids. At the end of the day, your vote is your voice–so use it.”

Associate Editor Kayla Eddy: “I live in Illinois, and it’s up to my generation to keep our state blue. Women’s and LGBTQ+ rights hang in the balance in elections like this, and it’s incredibly important for all of us to go out and vote to protect the rights of the people in this country.”

Intern Madison Lisowski: “Even though I am currently away from home and out of state, I will exercise my right to vote. Being able to influence who will be leading in government is so special, especially when to many other people globally are politically silenced. Vote because you can.”

Editor in Chief Deb Martin: “Get up, stand up, get to the polls and make your voice heard. Vote like your democracy depends on it.”

Don’t wait; go out and vote in the Midterm Election 2022!
